Homecraft H26-260L Compound Miter Saw (2)The Homecraft H26-260L is a 10-inch compound miter saw from power tools luminary Delta Machinery. Delta actually invented the world’s first motorized miter saw in 1966, and they have been a solid power tools manufacturer for nearly 100 years. The Homecraft line is their foray into the DIY woodworking and carpentry market, and features entry-level versions of Delta’s professional grade products.

Homecraft tools are generally less expensive and less durable than professional tools, but include most of the same features.

The H26-260L is exceptionally lightweight, and is intended to be easily carried around from room to room.

It features a laser guide to show precisely where the blade is aimed, a spindle lock for easy blade nut removal, an electric brake, and a nice ergonomic handle. This saw is rated to cut 4×4 boards at 90 degrees, and 2×6 boards at 90 degrees or bevel cuts up to 47 degrees.

  • Electric brake for quick shut-off
  • Very low price point
  • Includes a 10”, 24-tooth carbide tip blade

The Homecraft H26-260L is generally quite well regarded as a quality miter saw for light home use. Assembly is quick and easy, and the saw is compatible with any standard miter saw stand. Secure mounting to a table or workbench does require some additional nuts and bolts, which are not included. The saw is constructed entirely of metal and polycarbonate, and so is very durable for the price.

Homecraft H26-260L Compound Miter Saw (4)The laser guide is a very popular addition to the tool, and is accurate down to 1/16”. The bevel stops are also highly accurate, although it can be difficult to lock the saw onto the desired stop. As always, spending some time up front to learn the quirks and specific design features of this power tool will pay dividends later in reliable, safe service.

The H26-260L makes clean, precise cuts, and the ergonomic handle is very well designed. The tool feels solid and well-made, and is easy to adjust. However, it does seem to blow more sawdust than is typical. The dust collection bag is not the best quality, and tends to get plugged up with dust. The hole where the bag attaches is also of an odd size, and is not compatible with the common technique of attaching a vacuum hose. Finally, the electric brake is slightly but noticeably slower than other saws, so care is advised when shutting the tool down.

Selecting the right tool can be a challenge for the hobbyist or do-it-yourself homeowner. Finding the right balance between quality and price is quite difficult. Many end up settling for a tool that does not meet their needs, or spending far too much on professional equipment that is overkill for occasional use.

Delta has released a fine tool at a low price, striking that balance. The Homecraft H26-260L is overall an excellent tool for its intended level of use, and is a great choice for any garage workshop or backyard tool shed.
